Pacific Coast Bikepacking Day 7

Experience: I left Brookings riding fast on quiet country roads, through the border and then some. I didn't feel well after Crescent City. I ate too much mac n cheese at the local brew pub and the meal sat in my stomach like a 10 pound lump. The road quickly got steep and shoulder narrow. There wasn't a lot of space for me and vehicles, especially when I was riding so slow. It was hard going and heavy breathing and that Mac n cheese proved to be more a hinderance than help.

Weather: cool to warmish and foggy

Roads: wide, quiet country roads, nice bike paths, narrow, steep highway, with nothing but rumble strips for a shoulder.

Spotted: sea lions, chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits, snails

Cape count:

Purveyors peddling fine Myrtlewood:

Fun meter: 75% euphoria, 15% imminent death

Camp site lowdown: 3 miles away from the highway, quiet, secluded, surrounded by giant old growth redwoods. The actual spot is huge and covered in a canopy of massive redwoods. Restrooms farther away than I'd like, but not too bad. The showers cost quarters and are dirtier than most, but they water was warm and well worth it.

Achy breaky body parts: none

Mechanicals: none

Are Your Curious What I Ate While on this adventure?

I brought no cooking supplies and depended on the local markets and eateries. Here’s a selection of foods enjoyed on the trip.
