Pacific Coast Bikepacking Day 6
Experience: Ran into 3 dudes riding Oregon from top to bottom. Only one guy had some small panniers and the other two carried tiny knapsacks.
Was sad when I realized I passed the whole length of The Dunes without really seeing them or getting a photo. How did that happen?
Had a wonderful time in North Bend, but I felt distracted and tired while pedaling.
The day was so warm and delightful that I decided to grab some fresh fish n chips off the dock in Charleston, ride up to Sunset Bay and setup camp in time to enjoy Cape Arago, and Shore Acres. But by the time I got there, a thick fog covered everything. Weather was so great just a few miles down, but it would be hours more riding to turn back now and I already prepared my mind for a relaxing evening. My fish n chips were amazing, but they steamed a horrid fish smell into my pannier that I can't scrub out.
Weather: dewy dawn, then warm and bluebird sunny, then 50, foggy, and heavy with moisture.
Roads: too busy, but with nice wide shoulders.
Spotted: rabbits, black squirrel,
Purveyors peddling fine Myrtlewood: 6
Camp site lowdown: The Hiker- biker spot has power, water, and bike locks. The area is covered and rocks, like the kind you'd put in your driveway and do not work with tent stakes (?). The area is exposed and conveniently positioned next to the fish cleaning area. Apparently it's a good fishing day today. Toilets are farther away than I'd like, but not too far to manage at 1 am. Shower temperature can be adjusted (what's the temperature to boil a crab?)and water flow is glorious.
The campground is full of families having A LOT of fun. "We're all family here" is a phrase I keep hearing as one kid joins another camp's ballgame.
Fun meter: Hoedeehumm. Lowest day of the whole tour.
Achy breaky body parts: Felt old and stiff getting on the saddle. Hands are forever numb. A few back twinges in the cold.
Mechanicals: None.

Are Your Curious What I Ate While on this adventure?
I brought no cooking supplies and depended on the local markets and eateries. Here’s a selection of foods enjoyed on the trip.
